ABOUT
Ottawa, Canada has always been home to a thriving underground music community, rich with boundary-pushing artists, diverse genres, and a spirit of collaboration that runs deep. To capture and celebrate this energy, Disown Me Recordings has partnered with Catalyst Events to curate a new compilation album highlighting some of the most exciting talent from the nation’s capital.

This project brings together artists from across the city’s creative spectrum—ranging from post-punk, electronic, and experimental acts to heavy alternative, trip hop, and ambient soundscapes. Each track was selected not only for its musical strength, but also for how it reflects the pulse of Ottawa’s independent music scene: raw, daring, and unafraid to challenge convention.

The collaboration was born out of a shared mission: to amplify local voices and provide a platform that extends beyond individual shows or releases. Disown Me Recordings brings years of experience in capturing and releasing uncompromising underground sounds on physical formats, while Catalyst Events Ottawa has established itself as a driving force in producing live shows and fostering community connections. Together, they form a natural partnership—one that bridges the recording world with the energy of live performance.

From DIY basement recordings to polished studio sessions, the album showcases the city’s sonic diversity and the passion of the artists who continue to shape it. It also represents the collaborative spirit of the scene itself: musicians, organizers, and producers coming together to create something that speaks louder than any single voice could alone.

“This album is more than a collection of songs—it’s a statement about Ottawa’s musical identity,” said organizers. “We want to showcase the strength and originality of artists working right here in our city.”

Listen to the City - Systems of Technology will be available on vinyl, compact disc and digital formats at select local events.

A2 - 3MPATH - Hop3
(Harrison Casavant)

3mpath is an artist from Chelsea, Quebec who wants to make music that is integrated with sound effects/design. “Coming from a background in film sound I’ve always wanted to include sonic landscapes interwoven with my music, using field recordings and my environment to tell a story. I find myself bouncing between harsh industrial and soft ambient quite a lot which is definitely chaotic but I feel it keeps me engaged. Experimenting with new genres that I love the most about music. For this song I wanted to encapsulate a vibe about Ottawa that me and my friends would always talk about, the city just screams idm, especially walking though the downtown late at night, you have all these brutalist office buildings with sterile interiors, it gives off a liminal atmosphere or a sort-of mysterious banality that feels like the perfect spark for my creativity.”

A3 - VOYAGEUR STATIQUE - Dernier désir
(Eric Trottier et Guillaume Cliche)

Founded in 2019, VOYAGEUR STATIQUE is the collaborative project of Eric Trottier (011, VIOLENCE) and Guillaume Cliche (Transparent, GGROUNDD). Together, they produce, with the help of drum machines and synthesizers, a music that draws its influences from the House of the 90s to which they inject certain elements of New Wave and Pop, all seasoned with texts inspired by the theater of avant-garde, for the avowed purpose, to pin to the decor some psychotonic undulations, in order to move the adventurous spirits and the stroboscopic shadows. For the immobile walkers and those who sizzle.

A4 - RIGID BODY DYNAMICS - Fresh Uptowns
(Paul Anthony)

Paul Anthony operates under a constellation of aliases: Night On Wish Mountain, Wilhaeven, KI, Canada High, Equal Ways, Rigid Body Dynamics, Camvold, as well as being one half of the Post-Punk / Darkwave duo TOUCHED FABLES. These aren’t just pseudonyms—they're essential outlets for the prolific creative output of a boundary-pushing producer. His music has appeared on labels across the globe, played live throughout Canada, and featured in independent films, documentaries, and shows on MTV, NBC, CBC, and BBC 4, as well as in contemporary art installations.

B1 - PHASEZ - Fade Away
(Miguel Luiz Fernandes)

Phasez is an Ottawa indie artist inspired by various 80s artists, as well as artists such as Hers, The Strokes, and Dayglow. He hones in on nostalgic sounds that connects us to our past. “Fade Away” pushes this idea as it showcases the concept of “change blindness”. As we change, we have no perception of who we’re gradually transforming into, much like the song as it progresses.

B2 - INCARTA95 - The Still Flow
(Sterling Campbell)

Incarta95 aka Sterling Campbell has been making music since 1996. An avid drummer, he was introduced to electronic music production in 1998 when he and a friend found Rebirth RB-338 on a Future Music Magazine CD ROM. In 2015, Incarta and Hexadecimal Starkey founded the Vaporwave label "Lost Angles". They then went on to form a VHS label called "Baudway Video". Sterling started a Floppy Disk label called "Strudelsoft" which caught the attention of Rolling Stone and CBC. The label is still active. Based in Cornwall, Ontario, he has hosted Drone Day in that city since 2019 and continues to collect VHS, produce music and DJ.
